Y hike?

img_0593.JPGWe spent this morning hiking the Y with Nana & Opa (Aren't they so cute?). It was so nice to get out and actually move! It seems like I spend such a huge portion of my life shuttling between the house and the car and sitting around. I realized piggybacking Ellie up some of the steeper switchbacks that perhaps these 6 years of no hiking and a fairly sedentary lifestyle have eroded my cardio capabilities and hiking endurance. I was sure winded in a short while -- and she's not even very heavy.

img_0603.JPGKate rode in the baby backpack and was happy as could be (she even took a short nap unterwegs). Sarah was a determined little trooper -- though disgruntled by her frequent falls on the way down. She was thrilled to actually get to touch the Y -- it's such a landmark and we see it from our house out of nearly all of the windows.

Ella, well, Ella was not so happy. Oh well. At least this time we made it to the top. Last year we tried the same hike and were about 3/4 of the way up when Ella melted down so completely that Allen just picked her up and ran down the mountain with her. She is just kind of fragile when it comes to situations where she is frightened or tired or other such things. But we made it (Hey, she even survived going down the big tube slide at the pool yesterday).

And, whatever your opinion of Utah Valley, it is a pretty cool view from the top!

  1. While the thought of hiking up to the Y is a good one, I can truthfully say that I'm very glad I wasn't with you. I'd be melting down there right along with Ellie - which can't be a good example (or good for my image)
