Cedar City Trip

We had a fun little trip down to Cedar City this past weekend.  I've got to admit that I wasn't sure how it would turn out to drag 4 little kids down there and then have the adults take turns watching them.  Allen was determined and made it all happen and it turned out great.  We drove down Friday morning -- the kids were great in the car even though we didn't really have anything fun for them to do.  We got to Cedar in time to grab some lunch at Panda, then check into the hotel.

Shari & I left Allen in charge of the hooligans and went to see a fabulous production of Fiddler on the Roof.  It was REALLY well done and so fun -- we wished we'd brought Sarah along.  The singing and acting were great and the dancing fantastic.  We picked up the kids & went to dinner at Applebee's before heading back to the hotel and getting the kids all ready for bed.  We turned on the Olympics Opening Ceremonies for them to watch and they were enthralled.  Leah snuggled up with Grandma and fell asleep.  True to form she didn't want to be put down however which made things kind of complicated.  Eventually all the kids feel asleep though.  Meanwhile Allen & I saw an absolutely fabulous production of Othello.  Truly remarkable acting and so great to see it in the outdoor shakespearean theater.  Hard to believe that a little town like Cedar City could be host to such a remarkable festival with such marvelous actors.



The night was pretty miserable since Leah decided that she didn't like the pack & play and doesn't know how to sleep with me in my bed.  Sarah & Kate shared a bed in Grandma's room and Ella stayed in with us and Leah.  The wonderful breakfast at the hotel the next morning went a long way toward helping us feel more human.  We took advantage of the fun swimming pool at the hotel after breakfast and the kids had a great time showing grandma all of the progress they've made in swimming lessons this summer.

We had to check out by 11am, so we spent an hour or so at an awesome public park.  It was built and financed by volunteers -- 40,000 hours and $500,000.  It was really cool.


After many drinks at the water fountain and some relaxing in the shade and some lunch at Subway, we dropped off Allen & Shari to see Moliere's School for Wives and the girls and I headed to the local Voldemart to find some things to help out on the ride home.

I got a power inverter so we could plug the laptop into the car to watch movies. We bought Enchanted to watch. The girls each got to pick a pair of sunglasses and a candy to share. As it turns out it probably would have been cheaper for me to go to the play and put the kids in the daycare they offer =)

We took off straight after the play and drove 2/3 of the way before stopping at a Dairy Queen for dinner. The girls were very excited to try dipped ice cream cones:
