Since it was a rather blustery day, we decided we should torture the kids by adding a visit to Fort McHenry after the Dentsitry Museum. Fort McHenry sits in the mouth of Baltimore Harbor and was the last defense keeping the British warships from getting close enough to Baltimore to bomb the city in the war of 1812. It was the defense of this Fort with its giant flag that Francis Scott Key witnessed which inspired the Start Spangled Banner.
The kids liked learning about the Fort's defenses

We're proud of our flag

I had no idea how HUGE that flag was

Leah thinks she could've managed the cannon

Very windy out there at the Fort
