National Zoo

One big bonus about being here is spending some time with dear friends who live out here. A few Saturdays ago the Omans drove up from Williamsburg and met us and the Hickmans at the National Zoo.

Hickmans

We are kind of spoiled in that the last zoo we went to was the for-profit San Diego Zoo which is pretty fabulous. There were some fun animals here too though.

The kids cared less about the animals than about playing

Some scary wildlife!

Kids also loved the sculptures

So sweet!

Jacob's brother the Ape

Not sure what Ella and Zeke are doing here

The truly wild animals

Checking out some brains

Good advice

Ahh Screens . . .

Octopus feeding

Now we know

Cool Jellies

Leah was bummed they wouldn't let her hold the tarantula

Butterfly garden

Check out Nate's styling hat

Another statue!

More monkeys!

The meerkats were cool

Fast friends

The real Panda was asleep, but Kate liked this one

Flamingo Habitat

Beth's hat looks pretty cute on Heather

Whooping Crane -- did you know they were down to 21 TOTAL birds in existence in the forties. They're still trying to help the species recover -- up to almost 500 now. They're the tallest native North American bird species

Another statue!

Sure do love these guys! Wish we could get together every week! From here we drove into DC for a yummy dinner and great conversation at Bertucci's. Too busy with my mouth to use my hands for taking pictures, oops!
